Simplify Your Life

Colossians 2:6 “As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him.”

The Lord Jesus Christ came to deliver us from complications that Satan could potentially bring into our lives (Colossians 1:13). You are delivered from a complicated life into a simplified life in Christ Jesus (John 10:10). The key to maintain this simplified lifestyle is to “walk in him”; in order words continue to live your life in him. Over and over the scriptures instruct us to walk (conduct our lifestyle) as new creations in Christ Jesus. We are instructed to walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8) so we do not stumble; to walk in love (Ephesians 5:2) so we are failure proof (1 Corinthians 13:8); to walk in wisdom (Colossians 4:5) so we do act foolishly; to walk in the truth (3 John 1:3), so we are not deceived by the devil; to walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), so we do not fulfill the lust of the flesh. God wants us to walk worthy of the Lord, so we can be fruitful in every good work (Colossians 1:10). The ultimate is for us to walk in the simplicity that is in Christ Jesus, whom we have received as Lord. If we stop walking in Him, then we will start sinking into sin, carnality, and sadly become subject again to the power of darkness. God forbid!

Humbly Help to Restore

Galatians 6:1 NLT “Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.”

The Bible does not teach that if a believer gets caught in sin, those who are spiritual should tell as many people as possible and kick that believer who is overcome by sin while he/she is sill down. What the Bible teaches is to help such believers get back on their feet. When we see shortcomings in others, the solution is to overwhelm them with love. We find a classic example of this in the way Jesus responded to the woman who was caught in adultery (John 8:10-11).  We want to restore those who have fallen. We want to help them get back on their feet. Some people who fall into sin do not know how to get out of the pit they are in. They do not know how to break free. That is where you and I come in. “You who are godly,” Paul said, “should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path.” We also should note that the phrase “overcome by some sin” in Galatians 6:1 implies that it was not premeditated. It speaks of someone who lowered their guard and got caught, like an animal in a trap. Yes, they messed up, but it is our job to restore them. How? Gently and lovingly. Like setting a broken bone or putting a dislocated limb back into place. We should always desire to restore and not condemn a person who is caught in sin. When someone stumbles and falls spiritually, let us help them to their feet again!

What are you willing to give up?

Luke 9:23 “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves, and take up their cross and follow me”

There are undeniable sacrifices we have to make in this life as believers to follow Christ and to serve God acceptably. There are things we have to give up in order to follow Christ completely. We have to give up our own fleshly desires. It is not going to be easy. It may mean giving up your dream job, not going to parties with friends, spending more time in God’s Word and in prayers! Even though some people might think you are strange, you should focus on God more than everything else. No one has ever achieved greatness without sacrifice. What are you willing to give up? What are you willing to sacrifice for God and His kingdom? What are you willing to sacrifice to live free from the torment of Satan?  I know those are touchy questions that might even make you feel uncomfortable a little bit. But sometimes you have to ask yourself some hard questions and see what you are willing to do. There are a lot of different directions to turn in your life, but you have to be careful to make the right one so you do not end up in the way of death (Proverbs 14:12). If your heart’s desire is to follow Christ, there are things you must give up: hanging out with wrong crowd, indulging your flesh, romancing with the “old man” (Ephesians 4:22). There are things you must give up to live the victorious abundant life made available to you by the sacrifice of Christ; you have a choice to make.

Reclaiming Your Dignity

Colossians 2:10 NLT “So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”

You are worth more than you probably know. Do you know God sees you as valuable and precious in His sight? Sometimes the experiences we had, especially abusive ones, lead us to feel like something was taken from us; like we have lost our sense of value, control, and dignity. We can come to think we are less than we really are, and we feel worthless, powerless, or hopeless. But no matter what has been said to you or done to you, abuse never has the last word, God does. God says you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). You are God’s masterpiece, not trash, designed for good works (Ephesians 2:10). You are handpicked to be God’s special possession (1 Peter 2:9). You are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10). In Christ you have all the resources necessary to live abundant life (John10:10). There is nothing you lack when you are in Christ. You are complete in Him. In Him you live, in Him you move, in Him you have your being (Acts 17:28). Believe who you are in Christ. Do not let Satan put you down or steal your joy. The Lord can help you regain what was lost, redeem what was taken, and restore you to a place of peace and joy. He can help you reclaim your dignity!

The Commission of the Church

Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

One thing that both believers and nonbelievers have in common is they are nervous about evangelism. Nonbelievers are nervous about being evangelized, and believers are nervous about evangelizing nonbelievers. However, if we want to grow as Christians, then we must go into all the world and preach the gospel. We call this the Great Commission, and we find two relevant scriptures in the New Testament (Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:19-20). So where is Jesus calling us? He is calling us into the world. He is calling us to go to all people everywhere. Because the primary way people come to Jesus is through hearing the gospel (Romans 10:14;1 Corinthians 1:21). Who is supposed to do this? All of us. Jesus directed these words to all of His followers. Everyone is supposed to do this; not just the so-called professionals such as pastors, evangelists, and missionaries. And what are we supposed to do? We are supposed to preach the gospel. So, here is the question for you: Are you doing your part to fulfill the Great Commission? Jesus commands us as His followers to share our faith. But frankly, for some Christians, this has become the Great Omission instead of the Great Commission. The commission of the church is not to wait for the world to show up. Rather, the commission of the church is to go to the world.

Have you consulted God about it?

Joshua 9:14 NKJV “But they did not ask counsel of the Lord.”

You make decisions all the time. Some simple and others complex. Some reversible others non-reversible. The situation you are in today is the result of decisions you made some time in the past. When you consult God before making decisions, it keeps you out of all sorts of trouble. Joshua learned this the hard way. He had just conquered Jericho, the biggest city in the Promised Land. Savoring this victory, the Israelites felt like they did not need to consult God concerning their next move. The Gibeonites, one of the enemy nations in the Promised Land, realized they could not win against God’s people (Israel), so they sent negotiators in to make peace with them. And it worked. Even though the Gibeonites were lying, Joshua presumed they were telling the truth and signed a treaty. Rather than taking the matter to the Lord, Joshua was taken in by deception of the Gibeonites. And it proved to be one of the biggest mistakes of his life. From that day on the Gibeonites became an albatross to Israel. Joshua lived to regret that he “did not ask God about it.” Are you a kind of person that wants to make things happen in your own strength? Do you have the tendency to move too quickly or operate in your own strength and skill in making decision? I want to encourage you today to consult with God on every decision you wish to make (Proverbs 3:5-7). You will be saving yourself from a whole lot of trouble.

Retrain Your Mind

Romans 12:2, AMP “Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind…”

The primary purpose of the Word of God, the Bible, is to change the way we think about ourselves, about others, about issues of life, and about God.  The reason why many people today are not happy, the reason they are not enjoying life is simply because they have trained their minds to think and dwell on the wrong things. They have trained their minds to worry, to be anxious, and to be fearful. They have trained their minds to complain. They have trained their minds to blame others for their mistakes. They have trained their minds to see the negative in everything. The truth is that just as we can form these negative mindsets, we can retrain our minds and form positive mindsets. This transformation can happen as we renew our minds to the Word of God and develop positive attitudes. This does not happen instantly. You have to make a conscious effort every single day until a good habit is formed. I encourage you today to choose to have a positive attitude of faith, gratitude, praise, thanksgiving, forgiveness, love, joy, self control, long suffering, contentment, gentleness, obedience, and humility.

Satan’s Big Offer

GENESIS 3:1 NKJ “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

The original temptation, through the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16), still being used by the devil today to keep people away from the blessings of God, is to doubt that God’s Word is truth, and to doubt that God desires the best for us. The devil’s false scheme is that God is keeping back something good that would make our life better and more enjoyable. But God is not withholding anything good from us. When He gave us Jesus, He gave us everything (Romans 8:32). Now it is our responsibility to learn how to receive what He has given us and use it for the glory of God and the good of mankind. God’s way is actually the very best for us. God’s will for you is actually what you would also choose for yourself if you had all the information God has. Satan is a liar and a deceiver (John 8:44). Do not fall for his strategies to separate you from God and His blessings. Satan will tempt you with big offers (Matthew 4:8-9). Do not take his bait that will lead to destruction. Do not be tempted to think you can be happier, richer, or more blessed by accepting Satan’s big offer. God cannot lie. He is dependable. God gave His Word to you so you could know the truth and be set free. Believe that God desires the best for you, and He is providing the best for you.

You Are An Overcomer

1Jn 4:4 NKJV “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

We all face disappointments in life, and they can cause us to see nothing but negativity in our future. We express hopelessness, belittle our own abilities, refuse to take any risk, say no to personal growth opportunities, complain about the unfairness of life, and say that nothing we do will make a difference in a particular circumstance. But these are all lies of the devil. You are an overcomer in Christ Jesus, and you can develop an overcoming attitude in every situation in life. This is how: (1) Be honest about your mission to conquer pessimism. Give someone you respect the permission to point out when you are being negative. (2) Limit your exposure to negative environment. Since you become like the company you keep, look for people who build up your faith and not feed your fears. “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise” (Proverbs 13:20). (3) Volunteer to serve others who are less fortunate. Serving creates positive feelings and gives you a sense of worth.  (4) Look for the good in every situation and always express faith that the good is there! This is my encouragement to you today: whenever you face a difficulty, see it as an opportunity, because “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” Do not let the noise of the difficulty you are facing drown the voice of the Holy Spirit (the greater one) in you!

Let Not the Impossible Control your Destiny

Matthew 19:26 NKJV But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Jehovah is the God of all possibilities, and there is the supernatural side of God that we must not ignore. Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.” Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” Mark 10:27 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” I want to encourage you today, do not let the impossible control your destiny, give it to God. Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”  1 Peter 5:7 “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” God can do all things, and He will make dry bones come back to life. Nothing is impossible with God. Only believe. Trust in Him!
